We can find papaya in America as well as in India or in South Africa .
The papaya tree is similar in appearance to the palm tree: fruit grows all around the trunk and requires a warm climate in which to grow and thrive.
The papaya is oblong and ribbed with a green skin, turning orange at maturity. The flesh is deliciously sweet and has a soft butter-like consistency. Inside the cavities of the fruit are small, black seeds. They are edible but have a peppery, bitter taste.
The main varieties are : Golden, Solo, Sunrise , Hawaii and Formosa . |
