Apple

There are many mythological associations over various civilisations, with the apple in the Garden of Eden being the most widely known.

The apple originated from the region of Anatoly in Greece and was introduced into Europe by the Greek and Roman people.

Today there are myriads of varieties bred and established in many countries and selected for their superior eating quality, storage life and ability to travel.

The main varieties that we can find all year round are :

  • Golden : regular in shape with a smooth skin. When fully mature the fruit has a yellow skin with a pink blush. In certain countries the fruit is preferred with a greener colouration, which gives the fruit a crisp, juicy and sharp taste.
  • Royal Gala & Gala : bi-coloured apples, distinctive for their striped blush skin. This crisp fruit has a sweet taste and a fruity flavour.
  • Granny Smith : green coloured, round and regular; shiny skin. Crisp and juicy.
  • Fuji : very round fruit, faded green skin with pink background. Sweet taste. Very juicy and refreshing fruit.
  • Pink Lady : Smooth skin, shiny and pink coloured, with little green and yellow. Very fruity flavour with a delicious sweet taste.
  • Braeburn : very pleasant taste : both sweet and sour with a firm, crisp and juicy texture.

China is the largest producer and exporter in the world.

France is well known for the quality of the apples it exports.

USA , Turkey , Italy and Chile are also good exporters.
